The Gray Jean: the low-rise wide-leg jeans that launched a viral movement
Imagine Amelia Gray and FRAME Jeans got together and had a baby? Well, folks they finally did it, and The Gray Jeans are HERE! These are the jeans that launched a thousand (and counting) names long wait list. And wouldn’t you know, they look just like the low-rise, wide-leg jeans Amelia Gray’s mom, Lisa Rinna, wore in the early 2000s.
The Genesis of the Perfect Low-Rise Wide-Leg Jean
Who is Amelia Gray you ask? It would probably help if we included her real last name here, so let's start again. Who is Amelia Gray Hamlin? She is the daughter of Hollywood royalty, King and Queen Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna. Both stars in their own right, they got together in the ‘90s and had a modern Hollywood romance and two daughters, one of whom is Amelia Gray Hamlin. We first met Amelia Gray on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where Lisa Rinna opened up her life to an audience that fully embraced and fell in love with Lisa Rinna, Harry Hamlin, and their two daughters, Delilah Belle Hamlin and Amelia Gray Hamlin. Their family harmony and love was endearing, and we saw how close Amelia Gray was with her family. From hanging out in their kitchen snacking after school, to family dinners in their garden and going to goat yoga with her mom, Amelia Gray is all grown up and forging her own path. Her connection to family is still strong. She still appears on red carpets and runways with Lisa Rinna, which brings us to her collaboration with FRAME.
In scenes from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, we see Amelia Gray and Delilah Belle enthusiastically riffling through Lisa Rinna’s closet, trying on her red carpet dresses and marveling at all the designer artifacts stored under their roof. They are in total awe of their mother's collection, and this respect and adoration inspired the cut and design of The Gray Jean - particularly low-rise baggy jeans that Lisa Rinna wore in the early 2000’s.
Going Gray
Growing up, Amelia Gray noticed her mom always wore low-rise, wide-leg jeans, and since she loved going through her mom's clothing, she inevitably ended up permanently borrowing a few—as one does when your mother is a legend with a decades-spanning wardrobe full of designer clothing. In a recent chat with Interview Magazine, Amelia Gray reflected on her mom’s style and why she’s inspired by it:
"My parents only wear jeans. The reason I made this collection is because of my mom’s jean closet. Every jean that I made, I once saw on her. The baggy jean is actually based off of my mom’s OG baggy jean style from the early 2000s."
She got it from her Mama
Not only is this collection an ode to Lisa Rinna and her low-rise wide-leg jeans, it’s a testament to Amelia Gray’s lifestyle and goals when dressing to go out into the world. We know, sometimes stars live in another world but when we learned about what Amelia Gray was going after when she designed these jeans, we soon realized that stars really are "just like us." Maybe that’s a stretch (although the Gray Jeans are 100% cotton, non-stretch) but when it came to designing these jeans, she wanted something comfortable. Comfort for Amelia Gray is key as she (and many others out there) experiences sensory overload and has a lower tolerance for physical discomfort. For example, when asked about the design, she said she often wore sweatpants running errands or on the plane (there are hundreds of paparazzi photos of her in sweats) but now she opts for The Gray Jean for such outings and plane rides, which is a first for her and a real feat when jeans are deemed more comfortable than sweats for a flight.
Low-Rise Wide Leg = Most Comfortable Jeans Ever
We love that she puts comfort first because there has been a recent shift in how people are dressing for themselves and we feel Amelia Gray and The Gray Jean are a representation of this shift. Additionally, these jeans are incredibly versatile, which was another goal she set out to achieve with The Gray Jean. These jeans can be worn with any style of top but what really stands out is that the cut looks good with any type of footwear from heels and sandals to sneakers and ballerina flats. Versatility is second only to comfort. Life is busy, and if a pair of jeans can take you seamlessly from the office to a concert in total comfort, one of life’s greatest challenges has been solved - and Amelia Gray can officially add "genius" to her resume.
What is The Gray Jean
We could talk forever about Amelia Gray Hamlin and Lisa Rinna’s closet (we’ll save a separate post for Harry Hamlin) but we’re really here to talk about The Gray Jean and why it’s gone viral.
So, what exactly is the Gray Jean and why are they so great? The Gray Jean is a low-rise, wide-leg jean in a non-stretch denim, available at Hill’s Dry Goods in Astral, Au Natural, Rapture and Tolerate. Astral is a washed out black that we can see dressed up with a black leather belt and pointed stiletto or no belt, tee (more on finding the best white tee here) and sneakers. The Astral wash is a really cool and elevated wash that’s begging to go out for a night out on the town and then to your favourite hole-in-the-wall diner for breakfast. They can seriously go the distance. Rapture and Tolerate are blue washes that feel like classic '90s nostalgia. While these are rigid denim, you can really see how the loose cut creates a fluid look through the leg. Wear these with a relaxed white tank and sneakers as a day look and layer a leather jacket on top for a cool(er) evening look. For the shorties out there, we see you! The Pixie is cut with a shorter hemline and available in a 31” inseam and available in Au Natural Clean (aka white). Like Astral, this is a versatile wash that can go with any colour top. Since the low-rise, wide-leg has such a chill yet elevated vibe, we recommend wearing these with either a baby tee or button up with a tuck to top it all off.
The Gray Jean: Wash & Fabric Profile
Crafted from premium 100% rigid regenerative cotton denim, The Gray features a distinctive silhouette: a low-rise waist paired with a slightly higher back rise for an incredibly wearable, comfortable fit. Because it is non-stretch rigid denim, the wash you choose slightly alters the breakdown and character of the fabric.

Fit & Sizing Notes for The Pixie
The Sizing Rule: This style runs true to size. Because it is 100% rigid regenerative cotton with zero stretch, it will feel firm and snug across the hips upon the very first wear.
The Break-In Phase: Do not size up if they feel tight initially! Rigid denim is designed to gradually mold to your unique shape. Within a few hours of wear, the cotton fibers will relax to create a perfectly personalized, custom-fit silhouette that doesn't bag out at the knees or waist.
Proportional Styling Guide for the Pixie Length
For Petites (5'4" and under): The 31" inseam provides that sought-after, pool-at-the-foot trouser look without requiring immediate trips to the tailor. It pairs beautifully with a low block heel, chunky loafer, or retro platform sneaker.
For Average Heights (5'5" to 5'7"): The Pixie operates as a perfect ankle-skimming or straight-to-the-floor flat-shoe jean, allowing you to wear ballet flats, or classic low-profile sneakers without the hem dragging and getting scuffed on the pavement.
