Wear now & on repeat
Let’s face it, all good things come to an end and while we love the free spirited simplicity of summer dressing, fall arrivals are trickling in and we can’t deny the joy we feel about fall 2026 trends, new arrivals and adding carefully considered pieces to our fall wardrobe. Curating a fall capsule wardrobe is an indulgent experience for all the senses and this fall 2026 season does not disappoint. From silky satins, delicate wispy lace, rich suede, sleek leather, rigid denim in a rainbow of indigos and corduroy - there’s no shortage of textures to mix, match and delight in.
How to build a fall capsule wardrobe
Before we get started, take stock of what’s important to you, what your lifestyle entails, the climate you live in, what’s already in your wardrobe and what’s ready to get passed on. This way you can consciously build a fall capsule wardrobe without overdoing it on your wallet and closet space. We love breaking this process up into stages in order to keep things grounded and not overwhelming. This season our fall capsule wardrobe checklist includes the following essentials: elevated basics - think the perfect white tee (for a deep dive, check out our post here), denim in your favourite cut and new shade of indigo, a versatile knit for layering and a lightweight jacket such as a denim jacket.
What should be in a fall capsule wardrobe you ask? This season we’re seeing a plethora of exciting trends but we’re gravitating to what works for us and has longevity this season and beyond. We don’t want to overextend ourselves since that leads to disorganized minds, mornings and closets. The key to cultivating a capsule wardrobe is carefully considering what you already have, what works together, what you don’t wear and what needs to be replaced. That way you don’t get carried away. Once those steps are done you’ll know what you need and can choose wisely instead of falling into the ‘trend trap’. If you’re thoughtful about what you cultivate you can invest in a few pieces that speak to you, complement what you already have and work together to create endless looks.
Here we will highlight the most versatile pieces (casual and event wear), colourways we adore and new imaginings of basics from our favourite designers.
Fall Capsule Wardrobe | Foundation
There's nothing like a fresh, good quality base layer. Our favourite layering piece for transition weather is a tee (more on the perfect white tee here) or a solid tank such as the Isabel Tank from Citizens of Humanity. Layering is an essential these days and a topic we can discuss at length. In fact, we already have, here on The Archive. A tee or tank acts as the best blank canvas and is an essential item in a fall capsule wardrobe checklist and beyond if you care for it well. To learn more about fabric care, have a look at our fabric guide on The Best White T-Shirt Post. Our favourite tees and tanks are the Adine Long Line Crew from AGOLDE, the Isabel Tank and for a casual long sleeve option the Terrance Tee from Xirena provides pattern, colour and coverage. These three options can be layered and worn together or on their own. The options are endless which is the key to curating a versatile fall capsule wardrobe.
Fall Capsule Wardrobe | Pop of colour cardigan
This fall we are thrilled to welcome &Daughter to our knitwear assortment. &Daughter hails from Ireland and Scotland and uses premium lambswool and cashmere. Each piece combines heritage-inspired design with modern versatility, from chunky knit lambswool cardigans to lightweight cashmere button-up styles, made to layer effortlessly through the seasons. Their cardigans are timeless wardrobe staples, made to last. The Ada Crewneck Cardigan in Poppy Red and Pale Pink are colourful additions that can be effortlessly paired and layered with a tee and tank underneath and skirt or jeans of any shade. They’re effortless, elegant and durable to do the heavy lifting required of an essential transition piece in a capsule wardrobe.
Cardigans are essentials when it comes to curating a fall capsule wardrobe because they can be worn in endless variations and each season there are new imagined ways to wear them. There's the classic over the shoulders and loosely tied around the neck, tied around the waist or over the shoulders and unbuttoned. Now there's diagonally across the chest and tied, or around the neck like a scarf. Feel free to layer under or over these creations to create additional looks for your fall capsule wardrobe.
Fall Capsule Wardrobe | Eventwear
The lace and satin sets from Citizens of Humanity are a capsule wardrobe curator’s dream. They are the ultimate buy now, wear forever pieces. Classic enough to transcend trends while having a major moment right now, the Citizens of Humanity Lace Trimmed Cami and Lace Trimmed Skirt do serious legwork to bring a thoughtful wardrobe to life. Worn together, they offer a soft, fluid elegance that’s perfect for weddings, holidays, or upscale events - shifting effortlessly from late summer into the fall event cycle. While they are delicate in appearance and light as air to wear, they have a luxurious, high-quality hand feel that gives you peace of mind that these sets plan on sticking around. Crafted from Japanese hammered satin, they have a soft sheen and fluid texture. The Lace Trimmed pieces are available several cuts and colours: Black, Cocoa, Espresso and Cream.
As separates, the styling opportunities are endless. Anyone wearing these pieces can lean into pure femininity with delicate accents, play up the sexy allure or create a cool contrast against edgier pieces and rougher materials. The skirt pairs effortlessly on its own with a casual tee and bomber, or an ultra-cozy knit. The &Daughter Ada Crewneck Cardigan in Pale Pink is a dream match with the cream or cocoa colourways while the Poppy Red would work so well with the black, cream and cocoa colours. Meanwhile, the Lace Trimmed Cami can be styled with denim and a leather jacket for a night out, or dressed down with ballet flats or sneakers depending on what your day entails. It’s the ultimate balance of versatility and high style, making this set a true wardrobe workhorse.
Denim Essentials
Who would we be without a solid pair of jeans? Having a reliable pair of jeans is like having your feet firmly planted on the ground. They are a grounding force for a fall capsule wardrobe and without a reliable, durable pair of jeans, we'd be free floating and confused. Hill's Dry Goods has some new and exciting washes and cuts that are a requirement for any capsule wardrobe, especially this fall.
Denim has that chameleon like ability to work with anything while still making a statement of its own and this season we're excited to have new additions to the Citizens of Humanity roster: The Palma Straight Jean and The Nora Trouser Leg are foundational denim pieces and fulfill what we're seeing from a trends-spotting perspective while also staying true to a classic cut. The Nora Trouser Leg features a wider, tailored leg that can be worn casually with a tee and sneakers or paired with loafers and a blazer for work. We love how the lowrise looks with the wide, relaxed leg to give a sexy yet relaxed look to any outfit. The Palma Straight features a true straight cut with a clean hem and high-rise. This is a classic look and we see endless opportunities in these. They're a true triple threat as they're incredibly comfortable, flattering and versatile. Whether you're layering with the Isabel Tank or Lace Trimmed Tank and Ada Crew Cardigan, these jeans are a denim lover's dream.
The Palma Straight and Nora Trouser are perfect fall capsule wardrobe staples to provide some variable cuts but both jeans can be styled in multiple variations to suit moods and events.
Honorable mention goes to corduroy - what's a fall shop without a tactile corduroy in rich shades? This season Citizens of Humanity are offering up the Nora Trouser in Manuka corduroy and the Palma Straight in a deep earthy green Juniper. Pair either of these with a denim jacket and your back to school fall capsule wardrobe dreams will finally come true. For a denim jacket, we recommend the Cut 201 Jacket from OKETO for a reimagined classic denim jacket with elevated tailoring.

Le Bon Shoppe Socks - No wardrobe is complete without Le Bon Shoppe Socks and a capsule wardrobe is no exception, in fact it’s a requirement. We love the subtle nod to vintage nostalgia that reminds us of movies like Dazed and Confused, sundrenched summer days and varsity back-to-school uniforms come fall. Additionally, these socks are so comfortable and give your feet the firm hug they deserve. They add a hint of colour and personality to any outfit whether you’re in shorts, ankle or full length pants or a skirt!
